PictureTel Provides Streaming-Video for GSA Service

PictureTel Corporation:(Directory Listing)

PictureTel (http://www.picturetel.com) announced that has worked with the U.S. General Services Administration's Federal Technology Service (FTS) to develop a visual-collaboration center.

FTS worked with PictureTel's services team to design, program, build and install a center that will include Web-based streaming-video and other multimedia applications, a videowall, several breakout rooms and portable visual-collaboration systems at FTS' new Fairfax, Va., location.

"It was great to work with PictureTel," said Paul Tennessee, a deputy assistant commissioner in FTS. "Their Integration Services team was excellent in helping us figure out exactly what was needed to bring our vision for this visual-collaboration facility to life. We're excited about the new opportunities this custom solution provides us to interact with our customers throughout the country, while sharing the value this technology brings to our FTS business processes."

The visual collaboration center seats 125 people and incorporates 16 codecs, four video cubes, a rear-screen projector specially designed presentation tools, multiple large-screen displays and advanced mixed-media presentation capabilities. The technology in the facility enables FTS to connect up to 16 videoconferences at any given time.

"This installation for FTS is a prime example of how PictureTel works with a customer to understand its unique requirements and designs a tailored solution," said Joe Bernard, PictureTel's vice president of integration services. "With the expertise of PictureTel's Integration Services, customers don't have to be satisfied with off-the-shelf offerings - we are able to develop custom solutions that meet each customer's needs."
