HTML5 Digital Advertising Guide Updated as Ad Week Begins in NYC
It's a busy week for advertisers, as Advertising Week in New York City has just begun. Today is also the first day of the two-day IAB Mixx Conference, led by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB). To get things started, the IAB Technology Laboratory has released an update to its IAB HTML5 for Digital Advertising Guide.
The guide was first created to help shepherd digital ad creators through any difficulties as they move to HTML5. Issues covered by the guide include asset optimization, the use of shared libraries, fonts, animation, and, of course, HTML5 video.
The updated guide is streamlined, the IAB Tech Lab says, which should help ad creators get the information they need. One big improvement is that the guide's resource wiki has been expanded to provide technical help on HTML5 ad development tools, HTML5 browser compatibility, commonly used shared libraries, and links that help test the compatibility of HTML5 ad components.
The updated guide is meant as a companion to the IAB Display Creative Guidelines, which were recently completed.
"The transition to HTML5 is paramount for improving user-experience online," says Scott Cunningham, senior vice president, technology and ad operations, for the IAB, and general manager of the IAB Tech Lab. "The one-two punch of an overhaul to the IAB Display Creative Guidelines, followed by this update to the IAB HTML5 For Digital Advertising Guide represents just the beginning of the IAB Tech Lab's planned output on consumer experience solutions and standards—all designed to create an ad-supported digital landscape that people can enjoy without lengthy ad load times and clutter."
The updated guide is open to public comment until October 30, 2015. After that, the working group in charge of the guide will consider the comments, make alterations, and publish a final version.
