Haivision Intros Media Gateway, Low-Cost Satellite Alternative

End-to-end video streaming company Haivision added a new product to its lineup today with the Havision Media Gateway. Targeted to large companies, broadcasters, and religious groups, the Media Gateway acts as a bridge between remote video infrastructures, and is pitched as a low-cost alternative to satellite or MPLS networks. It accepts and then distributes live video streams from multiple locations. Haivision made the announcement at ISE 2015 (Integrated Systems Europe), currently taking place in Amsterdam.

The Media Gateway is built with Haivision's SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) technology, which lets it collect and distribute multiple live streams at the same time over any network. Built-in packet loss recovery, stream security, and network monitoring let organizations work with even unpredictable networks.

Haivision points out that the Media Gateway can be used to pull together streams from various locations to one central spot for live backhaul and broadcast monitoring, or to replicate and distribute a live stream to multiple locations using either public or private networks.

“The Haivision Media Gateway brings together remote audiences and video operations with all of the quality of dedicated circuits at a fraction of the cost,” says Peter Maag, CMO for Haivision.

Haivision will host a webinar on the Media Gateway on February 17.
