Vidyo Launches Microsoft Lync Videoconferencing Support

Enterprise videoconferencing specialist Vidyo has announced support for Microsoft Lync, which adds Vidyo support to the instant messenger. With it, Lync users can initiate and take part in Vidyo conferences through their Lync application. Users will need to download Vidyo's Microsoft Lync plug-in, which is backwards-compatible to Microsoft OCS 2007.

The plug-in connects the VidyoDesktop client with Microsoft Lync. Users will be able to start Vidyo conferences with the contacts in their Lync application. They'll see a Vidyo icon on the Lync desktop, which they can use to start a session. Contacts are automatically invited to the user's Vidyo meeting room and a guest link is created if the person contacted isn't a registered Vidyo user.

Users can also connect with people that aren't Lync contacts by using the same guest account feature.

"Vidyo´s plug-in for Microsoft Lync provides users with an exceptional ‘personal telepresence' experience, allowing them to have easy access to the same low latency and exceptional video fidelity on multiparty conferences that, until now, was confined to costly and location-limited telepresence rooms," says Ofer Shapiro, Vidyo's co-founder and CEO.

"Vidyo's platform enables personal telepresence, and an important part of our strategy is to integrate it with leading platforms such as Microsoft Lync for ad-hoc calls or Microsoft Outlook for planned meetings. Vidyo now delivers plug-ins for IBM Sametime, Adobe Connect, and Microsoft Lync and Outlook," says Shapiro.
