MobiTV Increases Live Sports Coverage
What's succeeding in mobile video? Live sports entertainment, says MobiTV. By the end of 2010, it will deliver an average of 130 live events per week. It should deliver nearly 1,400 live events in the whole quarter. That's an increase of 14.8 percent over the number of videos it delivered in the third quarter.
The company counts more than 14 million subscribers in the U.S. It provides the technology for every major carrier, as well as many branded apps, delivering live events with the MobiTV Accelerated Media Platform.
Mobile video is a natural to satisfy the demand for live sports coverage. On television, sports are one of the few things that viewers don't record, but prefer to view live. Watching a game hours or days later isn't the same. Mobile video satisfies the need to see an event live when the viewer can't be near a television.
"Live events are a major driver for the increased adoption of mobile content, whether to phones, tablets, or other connected devices," says Charlie Nooney, CEO of MobiTV, Inc. "Reliably delivering live content to mobile devices requires technical expertise and is a true differentiator for the MobiTV Accelerated Media Platform. MobiTV AMP was designed and built to scale to the growing demand of content to consumers on the go."
