WildTangent Entertainment Launches on GameSpy.com

GameSpy users can now engage in space combat, battle aliens or play arcade games, all within a Web page

Redmond, Wash.(08 Oct 2001)

WildTangent, a leader in online entertainment technology, announced today the launch of four premier game titles: Dark Orbit, SabreWing 2, Blasterball Wild and Atomic Pop on GameSpy.com, a leading provider of consumer online entertainment and technologies. WildTangent incorporated its Web DriverTM technology to make playing these four premier games an experience on par with the quality of a CD-ROM game using virtually any type of Internet connection. WildTangent's technology and leading edge content will be featured in a broad reaching distribution channel, of which GameSpy is one of the first to partner.

One of the premier games, Dark Orbit, puts gamers in the role of a lone pilot trying to escape the onslaught of aliens awakening from within a small mining colony in space. The pilot must collect the precious few resources still available and use them to build more advanced firepower. Along the way, he can find new technology that will enable him to upgrade his meager mining craft into a truly awesome machine of mass destruction. Dark Orbit players have access to five large maps, more than a dozen weapons and missiles to research and build upgradeable modular ships. Users can access a demo version of this premium quality game for free with the chance to unlock the full version for $19.97.

SabreWing 2 is a high-action space combat game where the user teams up with wingmen to battle against an evil empire. Gamers have access to a free demo version of SabreWing 2 with the full version available for $19.97. Blasterball Wild and Atomic Pop, both colorful, fast paced games for the arcade addict at heart, retail for $14.97 each with free demos available.

"Dark Orbit's gripping plot and powerful 3D graphics will be an instant hit for the GameSpy community as will SabreWing 2 and the lighthearted arcade games," said Mark Surfas, CEO and founder of GameSpy Industries. "The fact that CD-ROM quality games are now accessible to game fans regardless of their hardware or type of Internet connection makes WildTangent's Web Driver technology a valuable asset to GameSpy."

"GameSpy provides superior entertainment to a broad range of game and entertainment fans and we are pleased to include them as part of the distribution channel for our content," said Alex St. John, CEO and co-founder of WildTangent. "Because WildTangent's Web Driver provides a complete scalable platform, GameSpy can deliver a CD quality entertainment experience over narrow bandwidth connections."

WildTangent's Web Driver technology enables Web and game developers to create and deliver cutting-edge multimedia content via the Internet using standard scripting languages. The Web Driver software development kit enables developers to take advantage of a user's hardware acceleration to display graphically rich and highly interactive content. In doing so, Web developers can quickly develop and license premium entertainment and gaming content that scales to many users' systems, including a 56k modem.
