Vitec Introduces New MPEG-4 Encoding Hardware Supported By Development Toolkit

Vitec Multimedia, a provider of leading edge digital video products and technology since 1988, has introduced two MPEG-4 encoding products that are designed for developers and integrators of video-based equipment.

Paris, France(09 Feb 2004)

The VM4-1 and VM4-2 are real time MPEG encoders that run on Windows 2000 or XP operating systems. Each are PCI cards and make use of Vitec?s innovative ?Hybrid Technology? in which computational tasks are shared between the on-board VM2000 ASIC and the host PC processor. This architecture, which won Vitec the coveted European Information Technology Prize in 2001, achieves a powerful and flexible, yet cost-effective solution.
The hybrid approach allows developers to extend product life of hardware by allowing the host CPU to process any new algorithm improvement as they become available.

The VM4-1 can encode MPEG-1 and MPEG-4 at CIF resolution whereas the VM4-2 can encode MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 at up to Full D1 resolution. Both cards support features such as still image capture while recording, variable and constant bitrate encoding and pause/resume mode.

A fully-featured development toolkit provides a set of ready to use connectable components drastically cutting product development time. The toolkit, which is compatible with Win32, COM and scriptable languages such as Java Script and Visual Basic, includes full documentation, samples and tutorials.
