Vidpresso Powers Broadcast Graphics for Coast-to-Coast Coverage of U.S. General Elections

Vidpresso, a company known for providing broadcasters and event producers a simpler way to insert social media into their live productions, has taken the next step toward its overarching goal of simplifying the process of airing broadcast graphics.

Ogden, UT(20 Nov 2014)

By using its technology in the November 4th, television coverage of the Utah, Florida, and California General Elections, Vidpresso has moved past solely displaying social on screens to creating broadcasts graphics that are completely cloud-backed and delivered.

Throughout the day, KSL (Salt Lake City), WFTV (Orlando), and KTVU (San Francisco) used Vidpresso’s innovative software to display real-time graphics and tickers based off political data. Because of this, viewers were given high-quality visual representations of the balance of power within the House of Representatives, and which candidates were winning their respective races, all without costing the studios thousands of dollars. This game-changing software allows any production team to create broadcasts graphics and tickers like those you’d see on CNN or NBC, without the time-drain, and at a fraction of the costs.

The idea behind this integration was to allow each studio to easily give graphical updates on the elections as they progressed. Usually, as more data is presented, the harder graphic designers need to work in order to manifest visual representations of important information. They had to download, convert, and upload into a playback machine; a lengthy, painstaking process. Using Vidpresso, their jobs became much easier, saving them time when sending their graphics and tickers to air. All they needed to do was upload a Photoshop file of each graphic to Vidpresso in order to seamlessly display them.

Instead of relying on proprietary, expensive hardware to make on-air solutions, this integration takes a more simplistic route. All that is needed to bring professional broadcast graphics and tickers to air is an internet connected device and a subscription to Vidpresso. From there, you simply plug the device into your existing broadcast infrastructure and, within minutes, you’ll be ready to wow audiences with stunning visuals.

The elections marked the first time Vidpresso has been used for airing broadcast graphics. However, since the system can essentially pull any data from the internet and incorporate it on screens, it can be used for a multitude of purposes. Randall Bennett, Founder of Vidrpesso, is thrilled with how well the integration performed during the elections, and is looking forward to seeing it used in inventive ways.

“The elections showed we’re more than just a social media company,” said Bennett. “We think social media is great, and should be integrated into most productions, but we also think there are other opportunities for our technology to cut costs, manpower, or both."

Moving forward, to help out broadcasters thinking about integrating social into their productions, Vidpresso is planning to offer free use of its system for New Year's Eve and New Year's day. Broadcasters can use the system to air New Year’s resolutions found on Facebook, Twitter and media from Instagram.
