thePlatform Launches Unified Ingest Service for Video, Metadata

While label video publishing company thePlatform has announced Unified Ingest Service, meant to simplify the management of video and related files for streaming delivery. The service is available to all publishers, not only thePlatform's MPX customers.

Noting that operators typically use separate ingest services for broadcast, video-on-demand, and metadata, thePlatform say the process has become too complicated and costly. Its streamlined service can accept feeds from satellite, operator-owned CDNs, external CDNs, and more. It's a strong choice for operators that prefer to input one high-definition mezzanine file, then modify it for both cable delivery (using MPEG/QAM) and IP, thePlatform notes, adding that operators can set up workflows to create files for multiple screens.

The Unified Ingest System supports watch folders to automatically monitor uploaded files. Operators who use it with thePlatform's MPX Accelerate service can store large mezzanine files near their transcoding services, reducing the time needed to deliver files for processing.

The unified service started as a feature thePlatform offered its existing customers. Seeing the value in it, co-CEO Marty Roberts notes, the company decided to launch it as a standalone product.

“Right now, the act of collecting video and metadata is a real mess," Roberts says. "We’ve invested in our Unified Ingest System to help operators tackle this issue and create a new foundation for innovation."
