Vevo Brings Music Videos to the iPhone with Free App

Music video hub Vevo has become a leading online video destination in a short time, and now it's bringing its library of music videos to the iPhone and iPod Touch. The free Vevo app launched today (iTunes link) and it lets viewers access a library of 20,000 videos from over 7,000 artists.

The app works for U.S. and Canadian viewers, and it's good for more than just viewing videos. It also lets viewers create playlists of favorite songs and watch exclusive content. A clever geo-location feature shows viewers the top videos in their area. The app also offers push notifications, letting people know about video premieres and special events.

Social networking features let viewers share their favorite videos with Twitter, Facebook, and e-mail. The app shows music trivia before videos.

Vevo has launched a new original series in conjunction with the app, called Ask:Reply, which features artists answering fan questions. The first installment features Ke$ha and is available exclusively through the app. Future installments will feature David Archuleta, Maroon 5, and Ciara.

The free app is funded through an advertising partnership with AT&T. A Vevo iPad app and an Android app are in the works, the company says, but didn't give an estimated release date.

Vevo was the fifth-most-popular online video site in July, according to comScore, with more than 43 million unique viewers.
