Ericsson Brings Global CDN Partners to Media Delivery Network

How will networks handle the strain of increased video streaming, which Ericsson in its latest Mobility Report estimates will grow 55 percent each year until 2019? To answer that question, the communications services and technology giant announced that it has essentially created a plug-in ecosystem for operators around its Media Network Delivery solution.

By partnering with global CDNs, Ericsson's solution creates a multi-service system that extends the CDNs into the operator's network. The goal is to improve the efficiency of high-quality content delivery for operators.

Ericsson announced that the first three global CDN partners in this program are Limelight Networks, CDNetworks, and ChinaCache.

"The convergence of global CDNs with operator networks propels content delivery forward to a new level of effectiveness, and enables the media industry to optimize broadcast potential with the continued explosion of available video content," said Ove Anebygd, Ericsson's vice president and head of solution area media.

"We have created these partnerships to help operators and content providers to forge even stronger links so that they can continue to deliver the right services to the right audiences at the right time," Anebygd continued.

Ericsson will be at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, showing its solutions in Hall 2, Stand 2S60.
