Attract Advertisers and an Audience: Blip.tv Explains How

There are two major challenges facing any independent online video producer: finding advertisers and building an audience. That's where Blip.tv comes in, explained Eric Mortensen, director of content for Blip.tv, during a red carpet interview at the recent Streaming Media East conference.

"Ultimately, it's about us being a partner for an independent producer, for a show, and doing all of the things that an impendent show doesn't have enough bandwidth to do - or talent, frankly," said Mortensen.

His company plays a variety of roles, he explained: hosting a series, distributing it to a range of devices, marketing, promotion, and selling ads. For advertising, it splits revenue fifty-fifty with producers.

"There are people who - a considerable number and growing - do exactly what they've always wanted to do and make enough money off of it and there's no middleman," he continued.

Blip.tv is able to build an audience and find advertisers by grouping similar content together into networks. This helps viewers discover similar shows they'll like and offers advertisers the kind of scale they need.

"If people can find a way to get to the content they want, they will just eat it up," Mortensen said.
