Piksel Announces Modular OTT Video Platform for Publishers

Starting from NAB, 2014 has become the year for end-to-end one-stop streaming video solutions, and that trend looks to continue at IBC next month. Video solutions company Piksel unveiled the Piksel Video Platform, a cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) product that lets content owners quickly create and launch online OTT products. Piksel will demonstrate the offering for the first time at IBC 2014.

Thanks to the Piksel Video Platform's modular approach, content owners will be able to choose only the functions they need. Piksel designed the product to work with legacy infrastructures, yet remain agile. The platform can include everything from back-end content ingest and management services to front-end user experience tools.

In creating the platform, Piksel kept an eye on future needs, says Mark Christie, the company's chief technology officer, offering a solution that can adapt rapidly to changing demands. The industry is moving quickly, he adds, and it's critical that video solutions be future-proof.

The platform was built on the Piksel Palette, the company's services-oriented architecture (SOA) framework. This enabled the modular design, letting customers avoid a monolithic one-size-fits-all solution. The customer-focused architecture lets customers build a strong business foundation without spending a fortune, says Kevin Joyce, chief commercial officer for Piksel.
