Envivio Announces the Release of Muse On-Demand v3.6

Video-over-IP company Envivio chose the first day of the IBC exhibition in Amsterdam to announce the latest version of its Muse On-Demand transcoder, version 3.60. The transcoder is available as part of Envivio's on-demand solution (along with the Envivio 4Balacer). Envivio notes that On-Demand can save in storage costs when used with the Halo network media processor, which offers just-in-time packaging. Operators will use 3 to 4 times less storage, Envivio says, since they won't need to create and store multiple output versions. Muse On-Demand also uses up to 50 percent less power than GPU-based encoders using the same rack space, the company claims.

In a separate statement, Envivio announced that French cable operator Numericable is now using Envivio software solutions to provision its SD and HD services. Using Muse encoders running on Intel-based 4Caster G4 appliances, Numericable will stream multiple adaptive bitrate streams to its customers. Envivio notes that its software supports both live and on-demand encoding and transcoding using H.265, H.264, and MPEG-2, all with proprietary algorithms.

“Excellent video quality in combination with scalability and the ability to integrate the solution quickly were key criteria for us in choosing to work with Envivio on this project,” says Philippe Le May, Numericable's CTO.
