Video-over-IP company Envivio today released version 3.50 of its on-demand transcoding software, Envivio Muse. Those using the software can expect faster file-to-file transcoding and improved video quality.

In its own internal testing, Envivio found Muse 3.50 offered 35 percent transcoding speed improvements when compared to competing platforms that require hardware acceleration. It also found a 20 percent improvement in video quality, as measured by VQ measurement tools, when compared to an unnamed leading competitor.

These gains, Envivio says, let content owners reduce capital and operating expenses, as encoding jobs are either finished faster or are finished at the same time with improved video quality.

Those looking for hands-on testing with Muse 3.50 should visit Envivio's both at the upcoming IBC exhibition in Amsterdam, taking place September 7 to 11. Envivio's stand will be number 1.D73.

Muse is made to work with Envivio 4Balancer, which delivers simultaneous processing across as many as 50 encoders. Both products work with the leading digital rights management (DRM) platforms, workflow systems, content management systems (CMS), and quality control (QC) platforms.

"The new Muse On-Demand product," said Julien Signès, Envivio's president and CEO, "provides best-in-class picture quality while achieving offline transcoding speeds up to 12x faster than real-time."
