Business video platform provider Qumu announced the release of Qumu Capture Studio (QCS) 2.5 today, an update to its appliance for capturing and streaming video. The big gets this time around are support Microsoft Smooth Streaming and Apple HTTP Live Streaming (HLS).

"With smooth streaming support and the ability to provide multiple live and on-demand outputs simultaneously, our customers can easily reach audiences using a multitude of device types," says Ray Hood, senior vice president and general manager of Qumu.

Qumu has also increased how well the QCS works with video cameras. The appliance already worked with Sony pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras, and now Qumu has added support for Panasonic multi-purpose HD PTZ cameras. The update includes presets that Qumu says will be helpful in training room and live webcasting situations.

"We started using the QCS and VCC combined solution at a time when our company was growing to include employees in multiple countries and time zones, and it was getting increasingly difficult to share information," says Mike Dupuis, marketing communications manager for OSIsoft. "We needed a way to bridge the gap, and Qumu provided a great solution for overall management and sharing of our video assets as well as live video communications."
