thePlatform Adds A+E Networks Channels as Customers

In a company blog post, thePlatform, the online video publishing company owned by Comcast, announced that it has gained A+E Networks as a customer. A+E owns such channels as A&E, History, Bio, and Lifetime. Those four channels will now use thePlatform's mpx video management system. Other A+E channels will also use mpx over time.

Simplifying the video workflow across channels was a prime reason for A+E's move. The company also wants to deliver content to a full range of screens and platforms.

"With thePlatform's video management system, mpx, we are able to consolidate our video workflow into one system, with the flexibility and enterprise-class reliability we need to reach new screens and outlets," says John Cool, vice president of digital media technology at A+E Networks.

thePlatform counts many large TV service providers as customers, including Liberty Global, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Cablevision, and Rogers. As the company's public relations department notes, this announcement shows that it's also focused on premium TV networks.

Other networks that use thePlatform include PBS, Travel Channel Media, E!, truTV, Style Network, Outdoor Channel, and NBC Local Media.

thePlatform announced a partnership with Alcatel-Lucent in June, 2011.
