Ooyala Customers Can Get Own Roku Channel

Thanks to a partnership between set-top device maker Roku and online video platform Ooyala, Ooyala customers can now easily create their own video-on-demand branded channels on Roku.

In order to see the channels, Roku owners will have to go into the channel store on their connected Roku box and indicate which they'd like it to appear in their channel list. Alloy Digital, a division of Alloy Media + Marketing, is Ooyala's first customer to create its own Roku channel. AlloyTV is now an option for all Roku owners.

"The Ooyala integration with Roku allows Alloy to extend its premium video programming to innovative viewing platforms gaining popularity with consumers," says Robert Bell, chief technology officer for  Alloy Media + Marketing.

This is actually the second company we've seen offer custom Roku channels. Video portal provider Dyyno announced the same option in mid-August. If Roku wins its upcoming holiday battle with Apple TV and Google TV, expect to see a lot more OVPs get on board.

"Reaching consumers in the living room is the holy grail for online video publishers and advertisers. Roku is one of the first TV platforms that Ooyala will support. Ooyala is already working with all of the major IP-delivery enabled boxes and pure-play connected TVs to accelerate the adoption of OTT solutions for video publishing and monetization," says Alex Holub, senior product manager at Ooyala.
