Universal Pictures and OmniVirt Launch AR Ads for the Mobile Web
360° VR / AR advertising technology company OmniVirt powers the latest Universal Pictures interactive Augmented Reality ad experience for the holiday blockbuster Pitch Perfect 3. Unlike traditional AR ad campaigns, this interactive experience was delivered across the web without the need to download an application.
The campaign leverages mobile web ad inventory as a means to distribute the Augmented Reality marketing campaign. Targeted at Pitch Perfect 3 fans and holiday movie-goers the Augmented Reality ad engages its audience with an interactive AR filter allowing fans to create a unique selfie and share it with friends via social media.
You might recognize these type of execution from Facebook and Snapchat, but with OmniVirt's technology, marketers like Universal Pictures can distribute these new AR ads beyond the these two social media platforms, and can now target consumers across any web site.
"One of the biggest challenge for marketers in the AR space has been the need to download a native application," notes Brad Phaisan, CEO of OmniVirt. "We have focused on bringing immersive technology to the mobile web and love working with innovative marketers like Universal Pictures to engage audiences in new ways."
The campaign will continue to run through this month but preliminary results are already promising for this format. "We continually witness a 10x uplift in interaction and click-through rates on AR experiences when compared to its 2D creative counterparts," notes Phaisan. "On average we have seen users spend close to 30 seconds engaging with the AR ad."
With this launch, any marketer can take advantage of launching an Augmented Reality marketing campaign. This format is will become a staple of the agency toolkit in 2018 and with distribution enabled by OmniVirt across the worldwide web.
