Learn Online Video Speaking Tips from the Toastmasters

Toastmasters International has been improving public speaking since it was formed in 1924. It's been all around the world, but now the organization is going somewhere it's never been before: into online video.

That's because Toastmasters has begun offering short online videos that deliver important lessons in public speaking and more. While the videos weren't made with online video creators in mind, the tips it offers are perfect for companies using online video to create a brand identity. If your company hosts videos of your chief executives speaking directly to the viewer, these videos are excellent training tools.

Eventually, there will be ten videos in the series. Toastmasters has only posted the first two so far: Five Basic Public Speaking Tips and Job Interviews. The Public Speaking video is embedded below. It's full of great advice for anyone nervous about speaking in front of a camera, including "Know your subject and your speech" and "Focus on your message, not on yourself."

"If you want to overcome nervousness, the first guideline is simply to know what you're talking about. You'll have an easier time giving a speech on a subject if you know the subject well," says the first video's presenter. It's useful advice not just for budding toastmasters, but for online video hosts, as well.

Future videos will talk about using humor and will demonstrate mistakes to avoid.
