Netflix Use Skyrockets Among Regular Viewers, Finds GfK

People who like Netflix really like Netflix. According to a report from market and consumer research company GfK, regular U.S. users of the subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service—meaning people who turn to it at least monthly—watch ten shows on it each week. That's up from a five-show average three years ago. Moreover, regular users average four Netflix movies per week.

While Netflix is mostly enjoyed in the living room, mobile use is growing quickly. GfK finds that mobile viewing has more than doubled in the last three years, and that 24 percent of regular users have viewed Netflix content on one or more mobile platforms in the past month. That's a rise from 10 percent three years ago. TV viewing has grown from 36 percent to 47 percent, while computer viewing has grown from 17 percent to 25 percent.

GfK also looked at binge-viewing, finding that 25 percent of regular Netflix viewers watch three or more programs at one time either often or all the time. Young people aged 13 to 35 are more likely to binge-watch, with 31 percent having done so.

These results come from GfK's report “Over the Top TV 2015: A Complete Video Landscape,” which offers a detailed look at the three leading U.S. SVOD services.
