LiveFromMe App Offers Live Video Streaming, Challenges Meerkat

Article Featured Image

A new entrant joints the mobile live video streaming competition today: Free app LiveFromMe promises to stream video to viewers on any platform—whether or not they have the app installed.

The LiveFromMe app is available for iOS and Android devices. Broadcasters can stream to followers on Twitter, Facebook, and WhatsApp. They can even send live video links via email to friends who aren't on any social networks.

If followers tune in too late for a live broadcast, that's not a problem. LiveFromMe streams are automatically archived (a feature Meerkat lacks). Broadcasters are free to re-share their recorded videos at any time.

The app's features include notifications for new streams or trending content, one-button streaming, and adaptive bitrate video delivery.

Meerkat has taken an early lead in the live video streaming app category, but Twitter's own Periscope is still in closed beta. Competitor Stream has been around for over a year, but is trying to grow its audience now that mobile live video is popular.

"The power of live video broadcasting is no longer limited to established networks and studios, but to people everywhere—to share their life, live, on the social channels they care about," says Jason Clements, co-founder and CEO of LiveFromMe, Inc.

The company is based in Santa Monica, California.
