Vstream Changes Name To Evoke

Streaming media provider Vstream announced it is changing its name to Evoke (http://www.evoke.com).

This name change follows a deluge of other name changes in the streaming media sector. It all started innocently in December 1999 when encoding.com became Loudeye. Then in quick succession ForeignTV.com became Medium4.com, Skycache became Cidera, and last week Instant Video Technologies became simply, burst.com. Are more name changes to come?

Vstream, or Evoke, says that the new name "better reflects its goals to expand the use of the Internet as a powerful business communications tool".

"As we continue to expand our service offerings, we felt our name needed to grow with our vision," said Paul Berberian, CEO and co-founder of Evoke. "Evoke is the place on the Internet where businesses and consumers can go to share voice, video and visuals."

Evoke's services combine webconferencing, webcasting and that allow users to communicate with streaming media.

No mention was made as to whether Evoke would change the name of its product offerings. However, its free phone-to-streaming technology called Beep, is now called "Talking Email". And its webconferencing service previously called Netcast is just "Evoke Webconferencing".
