Virage Adds Face Recognition Capabilities to VideoLogger Software

Virage (http://www.encvirageoding.com) said it was collaborating with Visionics Corporation ( http://www.visionics.com) to add face recognition to Virage's VideoLogger platform.

Visionics makes the FaceIt face recognition software, which Virage is licensing to add to its video search application.Virage's VideoLogger is a video search platform that allows users to search through thousands of hours of video via any browser.

"Virage's philosophy has always been to build the industry's premier software by collaborating with best-of-breed technology providers, such as Visionics and IBM Speech Laboratories," said Carlos Montalvo, vice president of marketing for Virage. "Visionics' FaceIt . . .allows our users to conduct video searches they never thought possible. For example, imagine being able to quickly locate, from within thousands of hours of video, the exact frame where President Clinton was onscreen, the speaker was Ted Koppel, and the topic was health care and budget. To our customers this capability is not only tremendously valuable, it is magic."

"We are pleased to be working with Virage because they have a superior software platform for transforming video into usable information. We intend to work closely together to open up tremendous new market opportunities by integrating our two industry-leading products," said Dr. Joseph J. Atick, President and CEO of Visionics.
