Sneak Preview: Match Game: AI, Ad Tech, and Contextual Advertising
On Tuesday, Aug. 11, Ophélie Boucaud, Principal Analyst, Dataxis, will moderate the Streaming Media Connect panel “Match Game: AI, Ad Tech, and Contextual Advertising.” With the ever-increasing emphasis on contextual relevance in advertising to match ads to context and target audience with pinpoint accuracy, AI models are stepping in, leveraging real-time content and sentiment analysis and large-language models (LLMs) to extract scene-level contextual signals that power precise, privacy-compliant ad-targeting across CTV inventory at scale. This panel of ad tech and ad strategy experts provides a snapshot of the current and evolving state of contextual ad-targeting—one of the fastest-moving targets in the streaming and CTV industry.
Confirmed panelists include:
- Bradley Lewington, Global Sales Executive, Ad Tech, Servers.com
- Sarge Sargent, Owner, Sargeway
- Crystal Foote, Founder & Head of Partnerships, Digital Culture Group (DCG)
- Alia J. Daniels, Co-Founder & COO, Revry, and President, PrismRiot

Ophélie Boucaud joined Dataxis at the Berlin office in 2020 and has been contributing to Dataxis’ media, video, and telecom research with a strong focus on innovations in advertising markets. She is now in charge of Dataxis research and data analysis related to TV, telecommunications, and OTT industries in EMEA and Asia-Pacific. She regularly publishes strategic insights on streaming markets, advanced advertising, and telecom technologies and has participated in many panels addressing these issues.
“Contextual targeting has been streaming’s on-again, off-again promise for years: match the ad to the moment and reach the right audience without leaning on the personal data that viewers and regulators increasingly distrust,” Boucaud says. “Our panelists will discuss what AI now brings to that promise: real-time content and sentiment analysis, multimodal and LLM-driven signals that read a scene rather than just a genre, and privacy-compliant targeting that scales across CTV inventory. They’ll also dig into the harder questions: whether the industry can agree on a taxonomy for mood and scene-level context or drifts toward multiple proprietary ecosystems, where a human still belongs in the loop, whether scene-level matching actually beats a solid audience segment on business outcomes, and what the human’s job becomes once buying and selling agents start negotiating on contextual signals.”
Bradley Lewington leads global sales for ad tech at Servers.com by Nexcess, where he works with performance-driven ad platforms on dedicated cloud infrastructure built for real-time bidding environments. His focus is helping ad tech leaders eliminate infrastructure as a daily operational variable so they can reinvest in platform growth, manage spend with precision, and scale toward acquisition. He advises on full migrations to dedicated servers and hybrid approaches that combine dedicated compute with hyperscale cloud.
“Everyone is talking about AI in advertising, but the interesting conversation isn’t whether AI works—it’s where it actually delivers measurable value,” Lewington asserts. “We’ll explore how contextual advertising has moved beyond simple keyword matching to real-time understanding of content, what that means for CTV, and why the winning approach combines AI with human expertise to improve relevance, protect brand safety, and respect consumer privacy. If you’re trying to separate genuine innovation from the hype, this panel should be a useful discussion.”
Sarge Sargent is an experienced professional in the technical operations and engineering fields, most recently serving as the director of ad platforms technical operations at The Walt Disney Company since March 2021. Sarge has also been the owner of Sargeway LLC since September 1997. Previous roles include manager of video engineering for Peacock from May 2019 to March 2021, senior video engineer at NBC Sports Group from April 2018 to May 2019, and engineering manager at Adobe from November 2014 to April 2018.
“People hear contextual ads and think about the ad server being told the people, brands, and setting in the content at the ad break. Some AI systems already pull tone and sentiment at the content level, but IAB’s taxonomy stops at the program-level: There’s no scene-level standard for tone or sentiment yet,” Sargent explains. “Nobody discusses running context on the ad asset itself, or on the viewer’s environment: device, location, and whether they’re on a plane, in their living room, or at a watch party. AI is the workhorse doing the scene analysis, but it needs spec guardrails, and I’m writing them for the SVTA. Come to our session to hear how we use AI to close the taxonomy gap, fix the ad-asset blind spot, and determine where AI needs a human in the loop.”
Crystal Foote is the CEO and head of partnerships at Digital Culture Group (DCG), the only Black- and woman-owned ad tech company in the industry. She is the architect behind DCG’s Audience Resonance Index (ARI), a proprietary AI platform that decodes emotional, behavioral, and transactional intent to predict campaign performance and cultural alignment. A 2025 Ad Age Leading Women honoree, Foote is a recognized thought leader redefining what it means to lead in ad tech—with values, innovation and vision.
“Contextual advertising has spent years asking what someone is watching. AI gives us the ability to ask a more valuable question: What does that moment actually mean to the viewer?” Foote says. “The challenge is that AI can only interpret audiences through the data, assumptions, and perspectives built into it. When the engineers behind these systems lack a broad understanding of culture and consumer behavior, relevance can quickly become misinterpretation. I’m looking forward to discussing how better audience intelligence can make contextual advertising more accurate, more culturally aware, and far more effective.”
Alia J. Daniels is co-founder and COO of Revry, the first global LGBTQ+ streaming network that champions queer creators and stories, and president of Revry’s multicultural ad exchange, PrismRiot. She was recognized by Forbes on its Next 1000 list and named a Super Lawyers Rising Star for 10 consecutive years. Daniels blends legal expertise, executive leadership, and a passion for equity to lift up marginalized communities. Beyond media, Daniels is building Mogul Maker, a lifestyle-driven business education platform empowering entrepreneurs to create sustainable, legacy-driven businesses.
“I am looking forward to exploring where AI genuinely helps with contextual advertising,” Daniels shares. “For example, it speeds things up and removes a lot of guesswork. However, we also have to acknowledge where it still falls short. AI can flag a piece of content as ‘safe’ for an audience without understanding the nuance of who is actually watching and why. At Revry and PrismRiot, we pair contextual signals with real audience insight because we have found that assumptions alone can lead to significant errors. I hope attendees of this panel discussion walk away with a more pragmatic view of how to balance automation with human judgment in CTV and FAST advertising.”
