MediaKind Debuts Live 360º Video Streaming Solution at NAB
Video solutions company MediaKind announced that it will launch a 360º video solution at NAB. Part of the company's Cygnus Solution line of processing applications for multiscreen entertainment, the new offering is called Cygnus 360º-as-a-Service, and it lets clients deliver immersive video at up to 8K resolution.
Once captured, 360º video is streamed to MediaKind's cloud-based workflow, where it's processed for 360º viewing. The resulting video streams at 10 to 15Mbps, and can be delivered to the client's social media channels or through a public CDN to the client's app.
The resulting 360º video can be viewed on a head-mounted device or a multiscreen device.
MediaKind provides backend technical support and monitoring during the video's staging and live streaming. This reduces risk, the company says, and lowers the need to have support staff on-hand.
The company is targeting its 360º offering to live sports, esports, and music providers. Offering 360º video could help paid services reduce customer churn, it notes, as it gives subscribers better value for their money.
“As consumers look to be even further immersed and engaged in their favorite live content, today’s media players are continually looking for new innovations and formats to increase subscriber engagement with premium, pay-per-view events and new avenues to experience ‘being there’," says Angel Ruiz, MediaKind's CEO. "Through our new live 360º-as-a-service solution, we are combining industry leading and award-winning video processing technology alongside our technical support expertise and workflow monitoring to provide TV operators and content owner/originators with the confidence to open up a new world of immersive viewing.”
Conference attendance may have been slightly down this year, but South Hall—where nearly all the streaming video exhibitors were—felt busier than ever.
Broadcasters moving to IP delivery need to offer targeted ad placement to stay competitive. MediaKind launches a solution.
