Encoding.com and FreeWheel Partner to Serve Ads with Vid.ly
Encoding.com has done a lot to build up universal encoding and streaming service Vid.ly since it launched in beta in January, 2011. The service lets content owners upload video, have it transcoded into all necessary formats for desktop, mobile, and connected TV delivery, and view analytics of the results. With Vid.ly, customers use a single URL and player for all platforms. What's missing is advertising, until now. Encoding.com announced today that it's partnering with online monetization specialist FreeWheel to provide integrated targeted ad support.
To benefit from the collaboration, content owners will need to have a FreeWheel account. They'll be able to serve targeted ads from their FreeWheel accounts through Vid.ly's HTML5 and Flash video players. Customers can configure ad campaigns through the Encoding.com interface, or they can use the API to integrate it into their workflows. As viewers watch Vid.ly videos, Vid.ly sends user information to FreeWheel's ad server, which then delivers a targeted ad. The service supports pre-, mid-, and post-roll ads, as well as banner overlays.
“The Vid.ly universal URL solves a major pain point for entertainment companies attempting to expand audience reach by seamlessly delivering video content across the highly fragmented mobile landscape,” says Doug Knopper, co-founder and co-CEO of FreeWheel.
