Hold that Final Cut Pro Purchase: New Version May Be Coming Soon

The video community is buzzing that the next version of Apple Final Cut Pro will be announced soon, and that Apple will break the news at the Final Cut Pro User Group SuperMeet that's taking place during the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) conference next week in Las Vegas.

The clues are circumstantial, but they clearly point to something big. What we know for certain is that Apple has demanded all stage time at the event, forcing presenting sponsors such as Avid Sony from giving up their appearance time.

Final Cut Pro is certainly due for an upgrade, as the last version came out in July, 2009, nearly two years ago. Apple is known to be close to finishing the next FCP: Final Cut Pro author Larry Jordon has written of visiting the Apple Cupertino campus and seeing an early version of the next FCP, which he describes as "a jaw-dropper."

While the NAB conference would seem an unlikely place for Apple to issue major news, the conference has increasingly been a stage for video production, distribution, and monetization announcements.

Not surprisingly, the meet-up, taking place Tuesday, April 12, at Bally's Event Center, has already sold out.
