VirtualArtsTV (http://virtualarts.tv/), initially through their WiredArts Fest, continues to enhance digital engagement features that address an increasingly interactive, online performing arts audience. This week they are rolling out a mobile application. The mobile app includes numerous conversation components. Among these are “Tell A Friend”, “WireGram” (photo submission), a Twitter feature, a Fan Wall and Newsletter request. Additionally the app has tips for viewing as well as directions, contact information, program and scheduling, special thanks and links to website sections. VirtualArtsTV worked with FATGirlApps (http://www.fatgirlapps.com/) on the development.
Unlike many performing arts companies, VirtualArtsTV believes that there is a vibrant online audience for the performing arts, an audience which is eager to interact with the entertainment they consume. Kathryn Jones, CEO of VirtualArtsTV, says the “the app is designed to deepen the ways audiences interact with the shows, both before, during and after the event.” Additionally the app serves as a digital reminder of upcoming shows via calendar and push notification functions and holds information about every show, and every performer in the festival. The company is confident that this application “further establishes the WiredArts Fest as a first of its kind live-streamed performing arts event.” In addition to the in-theater audience, VirtualArtsTV’s performances are broadcast online for worldwide consumption.
Following the evolution of viewers’ consumption of media, VirtualArtsTV is seizing the opportunity to give artists, producers and writers access to global audiences. The festival simultaneously provides worldwide audiences the opportunity to experience New York’s vibrant live performing arts scene.
The WiredArts Fest will be streamed live from The New Media Center at The Secret Theatre from February 19th to March 2nd, 2013. Tickets for both the in-house and online audiences are currently on sale at virtualarts.tv.
VirtualArtsTV is the first company dedicated to live-streaming the performing arts to viewers across the globe. A cross between theater, film, social media and a live streaming event, VirtualArtsTV’s productions are performed in front of a live audience while simultaneously being shot with multiple cameras, edited in real time, and streamed live to the internet so that anyone, anywhere in the world can watch the shows and interact with them via social media.
VirtualArtsTV’s proof-of-concept project, with no marketing budget (and Kickstarter funded), garnered over 50,000 uniques to the final 3 performances proving there is a viable worldwide market for live-streamed performing arts. The team’s work has been covered in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, Mashable, Time Out & blogs all over the world.
