The California State University System Selects ShareStream Education’s Video Platform to Enhance Online Teaching and Learning Statewide

Collaboration to Offer Leading Educational Media Platform to Half a Million Students and Faculty across 23 Campuses

RESTON, Va.(26 Oct 2016)

ShareStream Education (“ShareStream” or “the Company”), a leading provider of online video and media management solutions for education, today announced that the California State University (CSU) system, the largest public university system in the U.S. with 23 campuses statewide, has selectedthe ShareStream Online Video Platform (OVP) as one of two video-learning solutions for the CSU system’s 474,600 students and 49,000 faculty and staff.

The decision to award a Master Enabling Agreement to ShareStream was the result of a rigorous, multi-phased evaluation led by the CSU’s Office of the Chancellor.  Among other criteria, ShareStream’s OVP was selected for its ease of use and reliability for servicing massive-scale media implementations, as well as for its interoperability with third-party systems, such as Learning Management Systems (LMSs).  In addition, the CSU system recognized ShareStream’s track record of successfully collaborating with academic institutions that have similar requirements to those of the CSU system.

“The demand for video and audio streaming is growing across CSU campuses, especially for instructional use and libraries,” said JP Bayard, CSU Director of Systemwide Learning Technologies and Program Services.  “We sought a full-featured media-management solution with extensive access control and a company that was focused on serving academic institutions to enhance teaching and learning, all of which ShareStream provides.  We look forward to collaborating with ShareStream to provide its technology to CSU campuses.”

David Weinstein, CEO of ShareStream, said, “ShareStream is pleased to partner with the California State University system, a thought leader in the educational-technology community, to offer the ShareStream Platform to campuses system-wide.  ShareStream’s technology is tailored specifically to facilitate superior online instruction, as well as to enable educators to embrace emerging teaching models, including flipped classrooms and active learning.  We look forward to working closely with the CSU team to leverage streaming media to enrich user learning experiences.”

The ShareStream OVP fulfills rising demand from universities and colleges worldwide for a turnkey media-management system, complete with digital rights management and access control, for uploading, transcoding, storing, managing, and streaming campus media.  It includes Pick-n-Play, an easy-to-use video-streaming application for instructional and student-generated content available seamlessly within LMSs, as well as analytics dashboards for media content that enable educators to glean insights on student engagement.
