TVU Networks Delivers Enhanced Forward Error Correction for Mobile Cellular Uplink

Company Embeds Qualcomm's RaptorQ Forward Error Correction Technology in TVUPack to Deliver Maximum Signal Resilience and Stability Even in Most Challenging Network Environments

Mountain View, CA(13 Apr 2012)

TVU Networks, the global technology leader in portable live electronic news gathering (ENG) broadcast solutions, announced today that it has embedded Qualcomm's RaptorQTM Forward Error Correction (FEC) technology in TVU Networks' award-winning TVUPack mobile 3G/4G cellular uplink solution. The combined solution enables TVUPack to deliver resilient, broadcast-quality picture in even the most challenging wireless environments.

The combination of TVUPack and RaptorQ extends TVUPack's technology leadership, further lowering latency, increasing transmission stability and resilience, and enabling users to reach the maximum theoretical throughput of every network connection. When combined with TVU's proprietary Multipath and Inverse StatMux technology, this solution enables TVUPack customers to deliver a stable, HD professional broadcast quality picture from practically any location.  TVUPack is the only portable cellular video uplink solution to feature RaptorQ's industry-leading FEC technology.

"TVU Networks has taken a very forward-thinking approach to enabling broadcasters to overcome the limitations of traditional broadcasting infrastructure," said Mike Luby, vice president of technology, Qualcomm. "RaptorQ is a powerful proven technology that thrives in delivering streaming media over constrained, busy networks and will further enhance TVUPack customers' ability to deliver quality video."

RaptorQ for streaming media and content delivery is the world's most advanced FEC solution for real-time streaming video. Compared to traditional FEC, RaptorQ protects against packet loss by efficiently recovering missing data packets with only minimal amounts of additional repair data and without the need to completely resend the data, effectively providing reliability in data networks. RaptorQ's low CPU overhead results in low latency and its fountain code properties provide the flexibility to dynamically send video over multiple paths. This key functionality provides resiliency and stability in the video stream.

"TVU has developed an enhanced solution that improves the experience for our hundreds of broadcast customers around the globe. RaptorQ is amazing technology. The combined solution enables TVUPack communication performance over wireless networks to reach its theoretical limit. With the advanced FEC enhancements of RaptorQ, TVUPack is able to deliver the best picture in any circumstances.  We plan to continue incorporating Qualcomm's advanced communication technologies in TVU's core products." said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks.

Already in use by hundreds of broadcast organizations, the TVUPack family of solutions gives broadcasters satellite microwave TV truck functionality in a lightweight, portable form factor. TVUPack is powered by TVU's proprietary Inverse StatMux technology, which dynamically segments a live video signal and transmits the segments through multiple independent 3G/4G/WiFi/WiMax/BGAN/microwave connections. The TVUPack family of solutions is simple to use and provide broadcasters with low-latency, HD-quality signal that enables them to broadcast live at any time and from any location.
