Pixlo adds Castlabs’ forensic watermarking STARDUSTmark to protect high-value content from modern piracy threats

Pixlo has integrated STARDUSTmark, Castlabs’ forensic watermarking technology, into its media supply chain platform. This addition gives film studios a more resilient way to trace leaked content — including screenshots, short clips, and social media repos

Berlin(19 Mar 2026)

Content piracy has changed. Leaked material increasingly surfaces as isolated frames, cropped clips, or short-form video shared across social platforms — not as full-length copies. Legacy watermarking relies on continuous patterns that need a significant stretch of footage to work. Castlabs’ STARDUSTmark takes a different approach: it embeds an imperceptible forensic watermark – one that can identify the source of a leak from a single frame or a handful of frames captured in any order, building confidence from dispersed visual samples rather than requiring a complete sequence.

For studios releasing high-value pre-release content, this translates directly into stronger traceability and faster response when leaks occur.

Because the integration is already built into Pixlo’s platform – a media supply chain solution designed to help film studios manage, distribute, and protect content throughout production and delivery – studios can activate STARDUSTmark without additional technical setup. Pixlo can tailor the watermarking approach to match a project’s specific risk profile — applying frame-accurate forensic watermarking or probabilistic multi-frame identification depending on the workflow. The result is faster onboarding, fewer integration hurdles, and protection that scales with the threat.

“Studios need protection that reflects how content is actually consumed and leaked today. By integrating STARDUSTmark, we give our clients a more adaptable watermarking option that holds up even when only fragments of content surface online.” — Magnus Hoem, CEO, Pixlo

“Piracy patterns have evolved, and watermarking technology has to keep up. We’re pleased to see Pixlo bring STARDUSTmark to its clients — making next-generation content protection accessible without added complexity.” — James Hynard, Business Development Manager for Content Distribution and Security, Castlabs
