NEW YORK(10 Mar 2016)
NYT Beta, The Times’s interdisciplinary team behind NYT Now and Cooking, announced today that it will introduce a new site focused on television and film and expand the Well franchise later this year. Philips is the official healthtech sponsor for Well.
Edited by television editor Gilbert Cruz, the dedicated film and television site, called Watching, will introduce a newsletter in the coming weeks in advance of the site’s launch, written by Margaret Lyons. The Watching newsletter will alert subscribers to the best new streaming weekly and nightly content. The site will include:
short, smart and entertaining movie and TV recommendations
a set of tools that will quickly guide users to the best streaming content distilled from among the hundreds of scripted shows now released each year
essential information on where and how to watch
Well, The Times’s health and wellness section edited by Tara Parker-Pope, will debut new content and features to guide readers to a healthier life by providing daily motivation, actionable advice and tools. New features rolling out later this year, include:
a series of guides that walk readers through how to adopt new wellness habits
a newsletter that features exclusive content, as well as stories from our archive, to engage readers throughout their wellness journeys
insights from our coverage in the form of save-able and shareable cards
“Beta aims to make The New York Times a daily habit for current and potential readers by providing trustworthy guidance they can’t get elsewhere,” said Ben French, vice president of NYT Beta, The New York Times. “The Times already helps millions of people plan their meals with Cooking and we believe Well and Watching will become equally indispensable to readers.”
As The Times’s unique unit that brings together product, technology, design, editorial and advertising, NYT Beta has seen great success since its inception. The team has helped develop and launch NYT Now, Cooking and The New York Times en Español and introduced substantial enhancements to the Crossword and Real Estate apps.
Beta’s product leadership will engage with a limited number of sponsors with the goal of building custom product integrations. Sponsors working with T Brand Studio will receive high level visibility into the editorial calendar to help plan creative content as well as insights on what resonated with readers to help guide creative strategy.
Philips is working with T Brand Studio to demonstrate how their innovative healthtech solutions are improving lives across the globe through a series of paid posts. The multi-chapter series has so far focused on aging, respiratory health and sleep. Philips is the official healthtech sponsor of Well through 2016.
