Giraffic Passes One Million User Milestone for its Fully Distributed Video Acceleration Cloud

Giraffic Sets Goal of 2 Million Users by September 30, as Growth Accelerates.

(01 Sep 2011)

Giraffic Inc., dedicated to the development of the next generation intelligent fully distributed video-on-demand acceleration technology, today announced that it has passed over one million end-users in less than six months since launch in March and is gaining over 10,000 new users per day.  Just 60 days ago, Giraffic announced that it had passed 500,000 users.

“We are one million strong and are thrilled with the size of our surging community of Giraffic fans who love video and our growing base of pioneering video publishers looking to offer the most advanced technology,” said Yoel Zanger, CEO and founder of Giraffic.  “The overwhelming success of the Giraffic Video Acceleration Cloud has surpassed our most ambitious expectations and we invite millions more to join and try the most technologically-advanced video accelerator cloud in the fast-growing VOD acceleration industry.”

The company reconfirmed that installed sites tests continue to show that the Giraffic Video Acceleration Cloud is increasing speed and offloading 75% of total user base traffic from CDN onto Giraffic’s Fully Distributed Video Streaming Cloud.

The company also unveiled unprecedented data from one of it’s recent customer deployments, demonstrating Giraffic’s ability to handle Peak hour volumes without compromising user experience or incurring additional bandwidth constraints.

This is particularly important in lieu of recent reports stipulating that the large video websites such as Netflix and YouTube, now account for over 50% of the total bandwidth in North America during peak consumption hours.

Some of the other promising results shown in Giraffic’s recent deployments include:

  • Hundreds of terabytes of video traffic are being delivered monthly exclusively via Giraffic’s cloud.
  • User streaming experience improved substantially:  re-buffering pauses and time to initial playback reduced, despite the extreme “long-tail” nature of video consumption, where the average number of views per video file was less than 20.
  • Bandwidth costs estimated to save approximately 50% of entire CDN bandwidth as the Giraffic Video Accelerator continues rollout.

Giraffic was the first VOD technology to support Fully Distributed multi-source Seek Forward functionality so that a user can jump ahead in the video, but still gets data from dozens of sources simultaneously.  While some previous P2P technologies can either enable seek-forward for the user to jump ahead in the video by falling back on the server or CDN for delivery, only Giraffic’s technology commits entirely to peer-based video seek, making Giraffic’s Seek-Forward an industry first.  More features demonstrating Giraffic’s unique focus on Fully Distributed Video on Demand requirements  are expected to follow in the near future.
