BaishanCloud Empowers Online Video Learning in China during Coronavirus Outbreak

China is going through the largest online teaching trial as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak. Schools across the country are racing to adopt streaming technologies as the epidemic forces students to stay at home.

Bellevue(10 Feb 2020)

BaishanCloud(Baishan), a leading global cloud data service provider, has recently announced that it will provide free online course distribution and acceleration service for all elementary and high schools in China to make sure students have uninterrupted online learning experience before schools officially resume in the country.

As the Coronavirus epidemic is spreading across the country, schools are being postponed indefinitely nationwide. An increasing number of high school students, however, have already begun learning full time again to prepare for their college entrance examination- but only from home. The Education Bureau is encouraging all schools to keep classes running online to minimize the impact of the epidemic on education. As such, a growing number of schools, both modern and traditional, are actively exploring online education options. This might be the largest online teaching trial the country has ever seen, according to South China Morning Post.

From a technical perspective, as long as there is network coverage, students can take classes online through live streaming or video-on-demand from the device of their choice. The challenge is, how to make sure users do not suffer from long buffering, frequent video delays, compromised video resolution or mobile viewing experience when there is a sudden jump of network traffic. With its low latency network and advanced streaming engines for encoding, transcoding and optimized routing, Baishan is able to ingest and accelerate content over multiple streaming formats and deliver high-resolution videos to millions of viewers simultaneously with the lowest re-buffer rates. Students can enjoy a seamless streaming experience on a variety of devices.

Just last month, Baishan partnered with Yiqi Education Technology to provide high-quality live streaming classes for a good number of schools in Hubei Province. Empowered by Baishan and Yiqi, Huangshi Sike Elementary School successfully provided Coronavirus prevention and control classes to more than 700 students through live streaming on January 30. The high-definition and smooth viewing experience was acclaimed by both the school and its students.

The Baishan team is continuing to provide free online course delivery for all elementary and high schools nationwide 24/7, making it easy and efficient for children to learn at home amid the hardest time of the Coronavirus outbreak.
