Astro selects Broadpeak for high performance streaming and CDN solutions in pay-TV transformation

Leading Malaysian media company chooses Broadpeak Origin Packager and EdgePeakTM to power scalable streaming across sooka and Astro Fibre services

CESSON-SEVIGNE, France(29 Oct 2025)

Broadpeak®, a leader in streaming and monetization at scale, has been selected by leading Malaysian content and entertainment company Astro to enable two major enhancements: hybrid origin packaging to streamline video delivery for its next-generation streaming platform sooka, and a CDN solution harnessing high performance local caching for Astro Fibre customers. The deployments empower Astro to reduce infrastructure costs while serving millions of Malaysian viewers with premium live and on-demand video experiences.

“At Astro, we are focused on continuously enhancing the quality and reliability of our streaming services to meet the evolving needs of our customers,” said Euan Smith, Group Chief Executive Officer of Astro. “As part of our broader innovation initiatives, we are investing in scalable and flexible infrastructure that supports the delivery of high-quality content across platforms like sooka and our Astro Fibre broadband services. Our collaboration with Broadpeak is one element of this journey, enabling us to adopt a modern architecture that supports efficient content delivery and positions us well for future growth.”

Astro has deployed Broadpeak’s high performance Origin Packager as part of a cloud-hybrid architecture for sooka, its popular standalone OTT service offering premium live sports, local content, originals and on-demand entertainment to mobile-first and big screen audiences. In collaboration with Irdeto and other ecosystem partners, the new solution replaces sooka’s previous origin system and introduces enhanced flexibility and performance, combining on-premises servers with AWS instances to optimize scale, resilience and cost. Broadpeak’s Origin Packager enables just-in-time packaging and encryption for both live events, linear channels and VOD content in multiple ABR formats, providing streamlined content workflows and reducing storage requirements.

In parallel, Astro has deployed Broadpeak’s EdgePeak™ solution to optimize content delivery to Astro Fibre customers as part of its enhanced hybrid CDN approach. The new deployment introduces local caching capacity at the edge of the ISP network, improving streaming performance and quality of experience (QoE) for Astro Fibre subscribers – while reducing energy requirements and saving costs. EdgePeak delivers powerful caching and edge computing capabilities, unlocking enhanced security, energy efficiency and resource utilization for operators looking to build their own high performance CDN.

“Astro is a leading example of how Tier 1 operators in APAC are taking greater control over video delivery and adopting powerful and trusted streaming solutions,” said Jacques Le Mancq, CEO at Broadpeak. “This partnership underscores our growing presence in the region and the strong demand for scalable, premium performance streaming solutions that enable operators to optimize costs, elevate quality of experience, and win the future of video.”
