VQ

A signal processing technique, originally used for data compression algorithms, that samples a series of points (e.g., vectors) and compares them to model probabilities. The models use distributed prototype vectors, dividing vectors into groups having approximately the same number of points closest to them, and representing each group by a central point (a centroid).
