Packet loss

Any delay of packets in a transmission, usually caused by a slow or congested network, to the extent that they are no longer useable beyond a particular temporal extremity. Packet loss causes breaks in data, resulting in excessive buffering for on-demand content and complete loss of audio or video in live streaming or broadcasts.
