MPEG-2 Program Streams

Program streams are multiplexed MPEG-2 streams that are used in an error-free environment, such as playback from an optical disc. ITU-T R H.222 provides for both transport and program streams, allowing the synchronization of multiple compressed streams on decoding and the interleaving of multiple compressed streams into a single stream. A program stream is multiplexed across a single time base. Constructed from PES packets, both program and transport streams support multiplexing of video and audio compressed stream, and a transport stream can be further multiplexed across multiple timebases.
