Piksel Brings Machine Learning-Powered Metadata Enrichment to NAB Show 2019

Additions to the company’s Fuse product suite allow customers to automatically enrich title metadata and conduct AI-driven visual analysis

York, UK(28 Mar 2019)

Piksel, a leading provider of software solutions to the broadcast and media industry, today announced plans to unveil two new machine learning (ML) powered additions to its Fuse suite of products at NAB Show 2019.

"Over the past decade, the complexity of the media supply chain has grown exponentially," says Kris Brown, co-managing director of Piksel. "Our Fuse suite of products is designed to help customers cut through that complexity and bring clarity and visibility to their workflows. The updates we’re showcasing at NAB will help them do that more easily and efficiently than ever."

Those updates – both of which can be seen at the show between 8th and 11th April – take the form of new functionality within Piksel’s existing Fuse Metadata Management product and the launch of Fuse IQ, an entirely new addition to the company’s portfolio.

  • Automated enrichment: this addition to Fuse Metadata Manager enables near-instantaneous enrichment of title metadata from third-party data sources. Using the company’s ML-driven ‘Content Knowledge Base’, Fuse Metadata Manager matches incoming metadata files with corresponding records from external metadata providers and automatically replaces missing, incorrect or inconsistent title data with a verified, high-quality alternative.

The enrichment function also allows customers to automatically integrate outputs from AI and ML-based sources, enhancing their content library with supplementary data provided by services such as facial, logo or image recognition.

  • Video content analysis: building on the concept of automatic enrichment is Fuse IQ, Piksel’s own video content analysis product. Fuse IQ uses AI techniques to tackle some of the broadcast and media industry’s most repetitive and time-intensive problems. One such application – currently in advanced testing with a major content distributor – automates the extraction of timecoded metadata from assets for greatly improved content localization workflows.

"With the development of both enrichment and Fuse IQ, we focused on problems our customers face today that will only become harder to solve tomorrow," concludes Brown. "In both cases, we’re using the power of machine learning to remove a huge manual burden without taking away any of the control. We’re looking forward to showing more in Las Vegas, as well as future updates further down the line."

The Piksel team can be found on the AWS booth (SU2202) at NAB Show 2019 from 8th to 11th April.
