San Francisco, CA (05 Jun 2012), the world’s largest video encoding service and provider of, the universal video URL platform, announced that powered the Mozilla Firefox Flicks global user-generated video (UGV) contest., via its service, powered the entire video workflow, managing video upload, transcoding, and optimization, via its proprietary Encoding Intelligence, hosting, and device detection for multi-screen / multi-device delivery of content created by filmmakers around the world.

Mozilla’s Firefox Flicks UGV contest was designed to give filmmakers the opportunity to create and submit short videos that promote Firefox, the open-source browser, and how it differs from commercial browsers. Individuals and teams submitted two-minute video stories and competed for regional and grand prizes, which were announced on May 17, including a trip the Cannes Film Festival for the Grand Prize winner. Filmmakers, actors, and industry executives judged  the competition, including Edward Norton, Shauna Robertson, Couper Samuelson, Jeff Silver, and Ben Silverman.    

Filmmakers submitted their videos to the contest via’s service.  The process was simple.  The filmmakers uploaded their source videos, which then converted into a variety of different formats and bitrates appropriate for all popular desktop browsers and mobile devices. then provided a short URL and embed code that was published on the Firefox Flicks contest website.  When visitors clicked on the video, delivered the format appropriate for their browser and device.  This simple, seamless, behind-the-scenes video transcoding and device detection helped drive the momentum of the popular contest, which inspired over 400 entries from all over the globe.
