Hands-on with the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera

There's been a lot written about the forthcoming Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera--mostly by those in forums who haven't handled it. As of May, there were just three models in the U.S. I got my hands on one to see how it works.

Conclusion

Blackmagic Design has crafted a very surprising little camera with the Pocket Cinema Camera. Even though the little camera's big brothers have not started shipping in large quantities, this little upstart is going to make a huge ripple in the industry. It's almost priced like a crash camera, but is designed to offer cinema-level quality that will elevate users out and away from heavily compressed DSLR footage.

In the end, there is no one perfect camera. And the audio may require a completely separate system with the Pocket Cinema Camera. But with Blackmagic Design expanding from one to three cameras, it's clear that they are taking this part of their business seriously. And that says to me that things are only going to be getting better down the line.
