Almost Live from NAB: Litepanels Caliber 3-Light Kit

Shawn Lam interviews Litepanels' Alan Ipachian atthe VITEC booth at NAB 2015 regarding the Litepanels Caliber, a new 3-light kit featuring Caliber fresnel fixtures

At NAB 2015, Shawn Lam met with Litepanels marketing manager Alan Ipakchian in the Litepanels booth to discuss Litepanels' new Caliber 3-light kit, which features three Caliber fresnel fixtures, multi-jointed flexible tripods, gel sets, color frames, 4-way barndoors, international power supplies, a compact light stand, a stand adapter, and a softcase bag.

Ipakchian described the advantages of using fresnel lenses in the Caliber kit. "A fresnel lens allows you to cut and shape the light without getting mutltiple shadows. What we're introducing here is a true fresnel that can be powered with AA batteries. It's astounding to get this type of output from something that you can throw over your shoulder, take on an airplane or a train, or just be completely portable."

Ipakchian said the kit was made for "videographers that are doing webcasts. We don't like to pigeonhole what these products are used for. It's always up to the content creator to see what applications they could use these lights in."

Explaining why a videographer would wants to use a fresnel vs. an open-faced panel such as one of Litepanels' LED kits, Ipakchian said the advantage is the ability to focus the light. "If you want something just to hit the eyes, if you want to do a splash against the walls, with the four-way barn doors that are included, you can make a nice slash," Ipakchian said. "It's a really great source of light that's also soft."

The Caliber kit is available now for an MSRP of $995.
