Almost Live with Streaming Media: vMix 4K and vMix Social
vMix developer Martin Sinclair discusses the latest developments with the live production software application, including vMix 4K and vMix Social, and offers users some device about choosing the proper hardware to ensure smooth and efficient operation.

vMix debuted at NAB 2013 to great fanfare, winning a Streaming Media Best of NAB award for its groundbreaking live production software. Available at 3 price points--free, for the SD version; $320 for the HD version; and $630 for the new 4K version--vMix has found its way into a range of live production markets, and took centerstage at NAB 2014 as the engine of Teradek's live show.
Streaming Media Producer contributing editor Shawn Lam met with vMix developer Martin Sinclair in the vMix booth at NAB 2014 to discuss the latest developments with the vMix software, including 4K and vMix social, which allows webcasters to integrate Facebook commenting, live tweets, and other social elements into their vMix webcasts.
Sinclair describes vMix to those hearing of the application for the first time as "live production software for your PC. It allows you to bring in multiple cameras, graphics, lower thirds, videos, virtual sets, produce them together live, then record them and stream them to the web live."
Of the new vMix Social element, he says, "We built a web-based app that you can load on your iPad, iPhone, or other tablet interface and select from the tweets, and then send them to air live. So, with that functionality, we’ve allowed users to have a second producer that can just choose through all the tweets without getting in the way of the switcher operator."
