Square Box Systems Ships CatDV 10.0 Digital Asset Management Software

CatDV helps content creators to manage the tasks and decisions surrounding all aspects of the production process including ingest, logging, annotation, cataloguing, storage, project sharing, retrieval and distribution of all their digital assets. Version 10.0 adds new features and an enhanced set of toolsets

Square Box Systems, a leading provider of multimedia tools for production workflow, announced a major upgrade to its award-winning CatDV Digital Asset Management software with version 10.0. CatDV is the best tool for content creators to manage the tasks and decisions surrounding all aspects of the production process including ingest, logging, annotation, cataloguing, storage, project sharing, retrieval and distribution of all their digital assets. Version 10.0 adds new features and an enhanced set of toolsets.

The upgraded CatDV 10.0 was first previewed as a technology demonstration at IBC 2012, featuring new pricing, improved integration with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and other NLE applications, an enhanced interface, increased support, speed and accuracy for QuickTime.

CatDV is the virtual “glue” that holds today’s most complex workflows together. Running under both Mac and Windows, CatDV has a flexible and highly scalable architecture that can overlay existing IT network infrastructure. CatDV enables users to log or "tag" their media quickly and effectively and to store this information in catalogues using an industry standard database format. The video, image stills, audio and document files can then be searched rapidly, reviewed and enhanced prior to submission for final editing and delivery to the end-user.

CatDV was designed to work using a cross-platform "open-standards" policy to solve the problem of working across different operating systems and file storage devices. This open platform standard allows for easy customization to fit the end users specific production needs. It integrates with the leading NLE solutions such as Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere CS6 and others.

Created in 2000 by Square Box Systems, CatDV has helped define a new workflow for the entire video industry. Prior to the development of CatDV, there were no dedicated media asset management tools available to the rapidly growing number of users of non linear editing (NLE) software. With the move to all-digital, tapeless workflows in recent years, editors and producers have found themselves struggling to manage a “perfect storm” of file management issues; an unorganized mass of media files, ever-increasing file sizes (e.g. HD video formats), the wide range of file formats used, 24/7 media demand, and the problem of ingesting (digitizing) old tape-based content.

“Existing software seemed to be stuck in the ways of traditional film and tape-based editors, logging from tape and creating "edit” lists rather than digitizing entire tapes onto disk and using software tools to fully exploit these files,” stated Rolf Howarth, Managing Director, Square Box Systems. “CatDV solves content creators number one problem--the inability to log and quickly retrieve key media assets. Now with the release of CatDV 10.0 and its rich new feature set, it is easier than ever for producers and editors to set up, customize and streamline their production workflows.”
