Boris FX Announces Free 360/VR Plug-in Giveaway for the Month of May

The Boris FX Continuum VR Unit is now available free through May 31, 2018. Five 360° enabled plug-ins for immersive video post-production.

The new Continuum VR Unit from Boris FX, the leading creative visual effects plug-in developer, delivers five useful and fast filters for professional reframing, editing, and finishing 360° video. The recently released 360° toolset fills a gap in the rapidly growing 360/VR immersive filmmaking industry which requires specialized tools to process spherical video formats. From now through May 31, 2018, Boris FX is offering the Continuum VR Unit as a free giveaway (a $199 value).

Continuum VR Unit - VR Blur filter

The Continuum VR Unit is currently the only single license, cross-host plug-in option on the market that enables preset sharing between editing, effects, and color correction/finishing stages — making it an invaluable time-saving tool for 360/VR post-production teams. Popular host application support includes: Adobe After Effects CC and Premiere Pro CC, Avid Media Composer, Apple FCP X, and OFX hosts such as Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve, VEGAS Pro, and HitFilm.

“As new 360° video cameras come to market, the post-production community needs professional tools to edit and finish in these new formats,” states Ross Shain, Chief Product Officer, Boris FX. “Many of our customers are interested in testing the workflow, so for the month of May, we are showing our support to the 360° community by making it as simple as a download.” Shain continues, “Editors new to Boris FX software will find that these high quality filters complement the existing 360° tools found in Premiere, After Effects, and FCP X, however, an additional benefit of the Continuum VR Unit is its ability to bring a 360° workflow to systems that do not natively support 360°, such as Avid Media Composer and DaVinci Resolve.”

The Continuum VR Unit delivers professional results with fast GPU-accelerated rendering. The five filters are: VR Reorient for repositioning or centering hero views; VR Insert for adding titles, graphics, and 2D elements to the spherical 360° workspace; VR Sharpen for applying the highest quality 360° video sharpening available using state-of-the-art algorithms; VR Flicker Fixer for eliminating or reducing luminance flicker with one simple click; and VR Blur for adding fast, high quality blurs optimized for spherical 360° video.

Customers are already raving about the 360° editing toolset:

“When we are working on 8k, stereo 360° video files, we require robust tools. Continuum’s new VR Unit inside Adobe is extremely useful for professional 360 video! We recently used Continuum 11 on a stereoscopic 360/VR project for Vogue and Google and found the VR Insert and VR Sharpen filters very intuitive and quite fast!” - Lewis Smithingham, President of VR, 30 Ninjas.

“Quite simply, the VR Sharpen tool is magic. It’s the greatest thing.” - Matt Celia, Managing Partner and Creative Director, Light Sail VR

“I could not get by without this tool. VR Reorient enables users to reorient a 360/VR shot in true 360/VR space in either mono or stereo format.” - Al Caudullo, The 360 VR Voice

The Continuum VR Unit builds upon the success of Mocha VR, the multi-award winning 360° toolset for advanced effects and finishing tasks like camera stabilization, object removal, nadir patching, tracking, and masking, also developed by Boris FX. Together, the Continuum VR Unit and Mocha VR, give 360/VR editors and artists a powerful, streamlined workflow to work more easily and efficiently inside 360° project timelines.
