Blackmagic Design today announced that C&I Studios used its ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K live production switcher and more to capture video from SiriusXM’s live broadcasts from Radio Row for the biggest yearly event in football.

Radio Row gathers sports talk radio stations broadcasting from the media center the week before the annual championship football game.

With more than 20 different live shows each day, global content creation agency C&I Studios was responsible for capturing more than 80 hours of broadcasts in front of live audiences over the five day period leading up to the game. Covering everything from news, expert analysis, daily interviews and more, SiriusXM brought audiences in depth coverage and live interviews from top artists and celebrities, including Kevin Hart, Lizzo and Pitbull.

In order to capture the action, C&I Studios had seven cameras feeding into the ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K with the live footage broadcasted in 4K to three LED walls. With five stages total, pairs of two stages each used one of the two 20x40 ft. LED walls and one stage used the one 10x30 ft. LED wall. A Blackmagic MultiView 16 was used for preview for the cameras, laptops and Mac minis, and seven HyperDeck Studio Mini recorders were used to record individual SDI feeds from the cameras. This allowed C&I Studios to deliver isolated camera feeds for SiriusXM's editing team to edit multiple versions.

“The ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K was the perfect tool for this job,” said Joshua Miller, CEO, C&I Studios. “We could put anything into the switcher, including cameras at different frame rates, computers at different resolutions and more, and everything was scaled perfectly because of the ATEM’s resync and low latency standards converter on each input.”

“Additionally, the built in Fairlight audio mixer allowed us to change, EQ and monitor each stage’s microphones on the fly which was vital because we were recording audio for each stage as well,” he added. “Having motion clips in the media pool was also a lifesaver since we had special graphics that we could easily send to any screen with the push of a button.”

“We chose Blackmagic Design for this project because we wanted to work with a company that had everything we needed,” concluded Miller. “You can trust that the gear will always work out of the box with an easy setup and deliver a super professional workflow.”
