In this interview, I had the chance to speak with Tod Raines from the Woodturning Tool Store. For several years, Tod was doing in-person woodturning tutorials and demonstrations for local and regional woodturning clubs. Like so many people, when the pandemic started in 2020, Tod had to pivot to virtual to do those presentations online via Zoom, YouTube, and Facebook.
Over the last year, as demand for Tod’s tutorials has grown in the woodturning community, and his business has grown along with it, he’s upgraded his setup and punched up his production quality.
We talked about how Tod is producing his one-man streams, how the role of livestreaming has increased in the woodturning world, and how hybrid approaches are developing since live events have returned. and we wrapped things up with Tod giving me a great hands-on demo of his woodturning technique, shown below.
