SM1: Setting up Live Streaming Workflows On-Premises and In The Cloud
No matter how much the technology and quality improves, it can still be a challenge to set up and deliver live streaming to an audience of any size. Come see how to set up several live streaming workflows with Wowza Streaming Engine, step-by-step, from video capture to playback and all points in between. In this session, you'll see live demos for several typical scenarios, including adaptive bitrate streaming, traditional unicast streaming, and multicast streaming in an enterprise, as well as cloud-based processing and delivery. As part of building these out, we'll use both Wowza and third-party technologies. We'll cap off the session with a look at future-proofing your streaming infrastructure and upcoming technologies, such as MPEG-DASH, HEVC, and HTML 5.1.

The capabilities of HTML5 web browsers, both on mobile devices and desktops, are changing rapidly. As a video content producer, you need to have a video player that can respond to these changes as browser vendors release new features. But how do you plan for uncertainty? In 2007, Netflix had a humble streaming service that consisted of an Internet Explorer plugin and a couple of thousand titles. Today, there are millions of active Netflix devices including smartphones, tablets, game consoles, and connected TV’s. In addition, Netflix' streaming library has grown to tens of thousands of titles including Emmy award winning originals. This session looks at the Netflix encoding service, looking at the key engineering decisions around video encoding.
