Brian Buchwald was made General Manager of nbbc (the National Broadband Company), an NBC Universal Digital Media initiative, in June 2006. Along with Mike Steib, Buchwald developed the business model for >nbbc and managed the September 2006 launch of the groundbreaking digital venture. Buchwald is responsible for the sales, product and operations aspects of the business.
Buchwald came to NBC Universal as Vice President of Strategy & Business Development in December 2005. In that position, he played key roles in NBCU's acquisition of iVillage.com and the digital partnership between Telemundo and Yahoo! He was also the digital media representative to the company's Broadcast Affiliate Futures Committee, where >nbbc was co-founded.
Buchwald began his career in 1997 as an M&A investment banker in the Morgan Stanley Technology Group in Silicon Valley. In 2000, Buchwald joined DoubleClick, where he was promoted to run business development while holding the title of Director, Strategy & Corporate Development. Over the next several years, Buchwald oversaw strategy and business development for PointRoll, Inc. (sold to Gannett in June 2005), advised AT&T wireless on the successful launch of its e-commerce division, as well as the private equity firms General Atlantic Partners, Archer Martin, and BRM Capital on new digital ventures.
Buchwald is a Short Hills, NJ, native and a graduate of Dartmouth College. He lives in Manhattan.
